Domestic electricity · Ireland

See what your smart meter already knows.

Every Irish smart meter records your home's electricity every 30 minutes, and ESB Networks lets you download that file. SmartGrid turns it into plain English: when the house uses power, how much lands in the expensive evening peak, what your solar exports, and which published tariff would have suited you.

The free analyser runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Paid reports are written with Anthropic's Claude from your own ESB Networks HDF file. We are not ESB Networks, CRU, or a supplier.

Free · runs in your browser

Try it free on your own meter file.

Pick the 30-minute readings CSV from your ESB Networks account. Either the kW or the calculated kWh version works. You get your total import and export, the day, night and 17:00–19:00 peak split, and the shape of your average day.

You can also drag the file here. The sample is synthetic: invented numbers in the real HDF layout, not a real household.

Private by design. The file is read by JavaScript on this page, on your device. It is not uploaded, stored or sent anywhere, and the page sets no cookies. You can switch off Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.

Optional: your unit rates in cent per kWh, from your bill, to estimate unit cost.

Where do I get the file?

Sign in at myaccount.esbnetworks.ie and add your MPRN if you have not already. Open My energy consumption, then Downloads, and choose 30-minute readings in calculated kWh (or in kW). You get one CSV with up to two years of readings. Columns: MPRN, Meter Serial Number, Read Value, Read Type, Read Date and End Time.

Bands: night 23:00–08:00, peak 17:00–19:00, day is the rest, matching the usual Irish smart tariff bands. Each reading is placed by its start time; ESB stamps the end of the half-hour. kW readings are multiplied by 0.5 h to give kWh. Clock changes are treated as wall-clock time.

Built with Claude

How a SmartGrid report is written.

The arithmetic is done by code. The explaining is drafted by Anthropic's Claude. Turning a year's 17,520 half-hour readings into a few clear paragraphs about one family's house is the part people find hard, and a language model does it well. It still needs guard rails, so the numbers never come from the model.

1 · Parse

Your HDF, checked

The same parser as the free analyser reads every interval, converts kW to kWh, removes duplicates and sets aside rows it cannot read.

2 · Compute

Numbers in code

Band splits, load shape, export, and costs on each supplier's published rate card are calculated deterministically.

3 · Draft

Claude writes it up

Claude gets the computed summary, never your name, MPRN or meter serial, and drafts the explanation and the short list of changes worth making.

4 · Check

Every figure verified

Each number in the draft is checked against the computed values, and the report is read through before it is sent to you.

Roadmap

What is live today and what is planned. Planned items are not available yet.

What the paid report covers.

Tariff fit

Your intervals priced against published Electric Ireland, Bord Gáis Energy, SSE Airtricity, Energia, and Pinergy domestic rates: standard, NightSaver, and smart day/night/peak where the rate card is public.

When the house actually draws

Share of import in day, night, and the 17:00–19:00 peak. Worth knowing before you accept a smart tariff that punishes the evening meal.

Export, if you have panels

Import and export read side by side so self-consumption is a number, not a guess. Relevant for microgeneration payments and for a battery that is mostly idle.

A short list, not a dashboard

The deliverable is a PDF you can keep. No subscription app unless you later ask for a refresh on a new file.

About

Built by someone who reads his own meter file.

SmartGrid is built by Conor Mc Namee in Co. Longford, Ireland. His home runs three solar PV systems and a 15 kWh battery on one grid connection, and he builds his own energy monitoring tools to make sense of it all.

Doing that showed how much the ESB Networks file already says about a house, and how little of it reaches most households in a form they can use. SmartGrid exists to close that gap for ordinary Irish homes, starting with the file everyone with a smart meter can already download.

Household

€49

One MPRN, one file, one written report within five working days.

With solar export

€79

Adds import and export side by side, self-consumption and export value.

Refresh

€29

A new report on a newer file, for an existing customer.

Sample finding

An illustrative 4-bed house used 4,280 kWh, with 22% of import between 17:00 and 19:00. NightSaver only paid off if the immersion was moved out of the evening peak. This is a made-up example, not a real customer.

Privacy

Free analyser: runs entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device, and this page sets no cookies and loads no analytics. The only outside requests are for web fonts.

Paid reports: files sent to info@smartgrid.ie are used only for the report you bought. To draft the text, a computed summary is sent to Anthropic's Claude API, with your MPRN, meter serial and name removed. We do not sell interval data or ask for passwords. Ask at any time and we will delete your file.
